My QSL card shows the Brooks County courthouse built between 1859 and 1864. A shortage of labor and materials delayed construction during the Civil War. It is one of two courthouses built in the state during the Civil War. It was extensively remodeled in 1892 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
Each year before Memorial Day weekend, the local VFW sets up and maintains over 200 American flags lining the entire square until after July 4th. The display is visible in this picture, click to enlarge.
